Hands-On Healthcare Support

The Healthcare Support project places volunteers in local clinics where they work alongside nurses, doctors, and administrative staff. The main role of the volunteer is supportive and observational. Volunteers help with patient intake, organize materials, assist with basic administrative tasks, and take simple measurements such as height and weight when appropriate. Volunteers may also shadow medical professionals, observe consultations, and learn about local treatment protocols, patient communication, and the daily realities of clinic work.

Volunteers are not expected to replace trained professionals or perform medical procedures independently. The level of involvement depends on Spanish language ability, relevant background, and demonstrated responsibility. In a clinical setting, trust and professionalism are essential. Volunteers are expected to be respectful, patient, proactive, and willing to learn while strictly following staff guidance and clinic rules.

The project takes place in Cusco or the Sacred Valley, areas known for their rich cultural heritage and strong indigenous traditions. Volunteers live with local host families, which provides a safe environment and an opportunity for authentic cultural exchange. Living with a host family allows volunteers to better understand daily life in Peru, practice Spanish, and build meaningful connections with the local community.
