About the Program
Connect, Serve, and Make a Difference on Spain’s!
Community project in Nou Barris, Barcelona, supporting residents facing social exclusion. Volunteers help strengthen solidarity networks and support local empowerment.
This volunteering program focuses on community development and social inclusion in Nou Barris, one of the most overlooked neighborhoods in Barcelona, where more than 100,000 residents face social and economic exclusion. Volunteers support solidarity networks that fight poverty, food waste, and loneliness while empowering local families, children, babies, and elderly people.
Volunteers work 35 hours per week (Monday–Friday) and take part in food bank logistics and distribution, food collection from supermarkets, meal preparation, urban organic farming, elderly inclusion activities, and general community support. During summer (June 26 – September 1), activities mainly revolve around a local summer camp (Casal de Verano), with increased work with children.
Each day starts with Morning Wellbeing (physical activity, meditation, and positive writing). Volunteers also receive weekly training sessions on cross-cultural volunteering, NGO management, food regulations, and human resources, plus access to workshops such as yoga, meditation, climbing, martial arts, and language classes.
Accommodation is provided in shared rooms at the cultural center or nearby apartments. All meals are included (mainly vegetarian). Laundry facilities, mentorship, and on-site coordination are provided. Weekends are free to explore Barcelona and nearby destinations.
The program is open to volunteers 18+ (16–17 with parental authorization), families with children aged 13+, and hosts 8–18 volunteers at a time.
We expect volunteers to participate with a positive attitude, respect for the local community, and a willingness to contribute to different activities depending on daily needs. Flexibility, teamwork, and openness to intercultural learning are important, as volunteers often support several areas such as food distribution, community events, or activities with children and elderly residents. In return, volunteers can expect a supportive and welcoming environment, guidance from experienced coordinators, and opportunities to learn about community development, social inclusion, and nonprofit work. Volunteers should bring comfortable clothes suitable for physical activities, closed shoes for community work, and personal items such as sunscreen and reusable water bottles.
